A friend asked me to go with her on a photography jaunt so we went to Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien, IL. The preserve contains over 2700 acres of forests, savannahs, bluffs and just plain beautiful countryside, including a large waterfall from which it gets its name. We wanted to practice the technique of blurring the water going over the waterfall and I was also hoping to sketch and photograph some black-winged damselflies…success on both accounts! There were more than a dozen black-winged damselflies flitting around-most of them males patrolling their territories. The females mostly went back and forth between sitting in the grass and laying eggs in the flowing river water.
