And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand ; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews !”  Matthew 27:29 NAS

I’ve wondered whether the Roman soldier who twisted the thorns into a crown was pricked himself by the thorns.  Even if the plant I drew was not the one used, there aren’t too many thorny branches that are easy to handle.  I think it’s the same with words.  Words that are designed to hurt others will end up hurting us as well.  Even if we cloak them with pretty flowers, the tone may reveal the thorns and anger beneath.  Jesus forgave them and may He forgive us our lack of compassion towards others that we hurt with our words.

Have a blessed Good Friday…
