Day 1 (continued) of my visit to Colorado

My dad’s cousin and his wife live in Monument, CO and the day couldn’t end without a visit to the town’s namesake, Monument Rock.  The skies were beautiful after the storms had passed and there was just enough light to show off the rock and all kinds of flowers that I’d never seen before.

We even saw several darkling beetles, scurrying along with their heads down, stopping to raise their abdomens in warning if we got too close!  They emit a nasty odor when disturbed and I didn’t care to test it out…

A small falcon glided to the rock and apparently had made a nest there as there was evidence of habitation nearby.  I loved the many nooks and crannies in the rock-who knew how many creatures made it their home?

If anyone happens to know the names of any of the above flowers, let me know!  Thanks!
