It’s been a rough month. Health issues in family that lives far away, friends in trouble, and a helpless feeling that I can’t do anything to change these situations, coupled with cold, gloomy weather have cast my spirit down. I bought some bright tulips (and chocolate) to cheer me up and had to sketch them.
I have always wondered if my mood affects my artwork and once I was halfway through, I realized it had. While the tulips are fairly bright, the dark background definitely reflects the gray feelings I have. Fortunately, the tulips are breaking through the blackness to bring hope. Spring is coming! Enjoy!
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:5
Oh, Karen, this is perfect timing. I have some similar things going on, and this gray damp weather does not help! I’ve had the chocolate on hand for sure, and though I’m painting some other subjects, I will go buy some flowers for this too!!!! Thanks.
Thanks, Marilyn! Sketching the flowers helps me focus on something beautiful which helps.
Be nice to yourself and it will lift the gloom. I do that too.
Thanks, Sherry! Buying flowers is my way of being nice to myself 🙂
That a positive move to get rid of the winter blues!
Beautiful post, dear Karen.
Nothing cheers up a dull winter day like fresh flowers, lovely art, and thoughts of eternal spring.
Blessings ~ Wendy ❤
Thanks, Wendy! I’m hoping it will help others as well. 🙂
I am sorry this month has been so hard for you Karen. Your sketch of the tulips is so lovely and the black background just makes them stand out even more. Your verse from Psalm 42 is a comfort.
Thanks, Clare! I know I’m not alone…
❤
Thanks Karen, the tulips and verse also helped me as too much is going on right now.

I’m glad it helped! We’re praying for you and Mom and Pam as well.
Chocolate! The endorphins found in chocolate will make you feel better. I think we all underestimate how the weather affects us. And you’ve got the added feeling of helplessness.
Yes, I’m definitely eating more chocolate 🙂 and keeping busy!
I trust you are better, Karen. Tulips are wonderful for the soul. Chocolate will make us sicker. Happy blogging.
Diana
Thank you, I’ll stick with both 🙂 Happy blogging to you too!
I don’t blame you. Choc’s great for our emotional health. 😉
I could tell you have high E.Q. You’re able to divert your mind from those mishaps. With your paintings, it seems that you’ll be able to surpass all negative emotions.
