Hexagons and Honeybees 2 is now finished!
Before: see previous post
After:
The large bees took everything I knew about sculpting to create and I learned that I could indeed do more than one sculpture of the same creature! They’re each a bit different and I must say I’m rather attached to them.
The little bees have found a home in a beautiful oak box that my husband made for me. He’s the best!
Both of these pieces will be part of an art exhibit that Suzanne Wegener and I will be holding at the Heller Nature Center in Highland Park starting on May 2, 2017. There will be an artists’ demonstration and reception on May 6 from 1-3 pm. Hope to see you there!

Love the sculptural honey bees – and the whole assemblage. Beautiful study in Bret’s box!
Thanks, Aunt Jan! Brett did a great job. I couldn’t find a box the right size so he made one for me!
Very beautiful!
Thanks, Ilex!
Fantastic, Karen! I can’t believe how much detail you managed to put on those bees. Wish I could come see the exhibit.
Thanks, Emily! It was hard to stop adding detail since they were so big :). I finally told myself to just step away from the bees or else they never would have been finished!
Wow! Two exhibits instead of just one and both so wonderful!
Thanks, Clare! Yes, it’s been a busy spring!
Well Done, Karen! I love what you did with this piece.
Thanks, Melissa!
Your bee sculptures are incredible and the beautiful frame your husband made for them is the perfect setting. You have a perfect marriage and you are very lucky to have such a supportive husband.
Thanks, Carol! No one has a perfect marriage, but I truly am grateful that he is so supportive in so many ways!
The bees are fabulous! What an important work of art this is. You are really outdoing yourself. Congratulations!
Thanks, Resa! You say such encouraging things that are so uplifting 🙂
Thank you! I’m happy to be seen thusly!
Wow, I saw these before, but they are so different from your usual style.
What can I say? The bees are my style but the background admittedly is a bit more abstract. It was fun 🙂

Absolutely stunning! I wish you sold copies; I’d display it in my living room!
Thanks, Juli! Not sure how a print would turn out… Canvas is hard to photograph. I might try later on though.
