Commissions are tricky things. It’s hard enough to bring your own visions to life, but to bring someone else’s ideas to fruition is something else entirely. Fortunately, I had a client who gave me the idea, then let me loose to paint it. She has three granddaughters who are named Violet, Daisy, and Olive and she wanted botanical art pieces to correspond with their names. She even let me put insects in them! They were challenging to do as I had to work from reference photos which all had different lighting in them. I ended up making a mock violet leaf out of paper in order to figure out the lighting on it. It was good to get back into watercolor and a nice way to finish out the year. Happy New Year! Enjoy!
